Dave Looks Great For 20!

We’d like to make a very special shout out to Dave Mellor - who has been with the company for 20 years today - having joined Staging Services on 14th June 1998.

For those of you who don't know, Dave is our Warehouse Manager, and blimey, doesn't he look great for 20!

If you can’t cast your minds back that far, or if you were still just a lingering thought in the back of your parents’ minds, then here’s a little recap on what was going on during the week of Dave’s highly anticipated arrival at Staging Services.

On UK TV Rodney and Cassandra finally tied the knot in ‘Only Fools and Horses’ and the DVD format was released onto the UK market for the first time… Jumanji being one of the first titles released on the new format is.

In current affairs, during his first week, Dave saw the general-circulation issue of a two pound coin, with a bi-metallic design... If he had saved one of these coins each day for the last 20 years then he'd have £14,600 in his piggy bank right now.

It had just been over a year since the death of Diana, Princess of Wales – a Tribute Concert was held at Althorp Park in Northamptonshire, and attended by 15,000 people.

The Internet had just started to make its way into homes and it was still five years before any relevant social media platforms were to be successfully launched, such as Facebook, Myspace or LinkedIn. Google was still a luxury for those that could get it, or find anything useful on it.

Dave’s phone, the Nokia 5110, was the bestselling phone of the year and can now only be seen in a museum.

Glenn Hoddles' England team were on their way to France this week for the world cup, whilst Baddiel and Skinner and The Lightning Seeds topped the charts for three weeks, with 'Three Lions'.

Dave will be hoping that the England team will get much further than the second round this time - as they did in France in 1998 - and he is hopeful that, 20 years on, his sweepstakes team will be much better than the one he had back in 1998, when the team he picked hadn't even qualified!

Dave - Thank you for being a loyal member of the team and well done for battling through the years and riding the storms with us. Here's to many more happy years!
