A Well-Rounded Success!

'A solution was required to build a circular stage with built-in LED floor that could be moved'.

Having been instructed by Penhaligon Event Consultants, for their Forever Living Global Summit, to create a circular 15m diameter stage on wheels, we eagerly got the thinking caps on in preparation for the challenge.

A solution was required to build a circular stage that would house a built-in LED floor and be moved into place after a matching, cylindrical, screen had been flown from the rigging above.

Why?

Due to the short production build time allowed on site it was necessary to look at options for how all departments were to able build simultaneously within the same space.

The Solution?

A plan was drawn up to get our circular stage, with LED screens, in first along with the flown trusses. The stage would be built in an unused part of the venue so that it could then be built and pushed into place once the truss and the cylindrical screens had been built.

'We designed and manufactured 201 specially-adapted wheels, with steel plates and spigots – enabling us to safely and evenly spread the load of the stage, whilst on wheels'.

To do this we had to do what we do best – that’s to engineer a solution that would work in harmony with our existing Event Deck Staging System. We designed and manufactured 201 specially-adapted wheels, with steel plates and spigots – enabling us to safely and evenly spread the load of the stage, whilst on wheels. Ultimately, one plate with spigots would replace up to four standard stage legs.

When the stage system arrived in Sweden it required the LED screens to be embedded within it, before being pushed into its final position.

'Thanks to a well-thought-out engineering solution it only took 12 people to safely move it 50 meters across the venue floor into place'.

Once the conflicting elements above the stage were complete the LED stage was finally on the move! Thanks to our well-thought-out engineering solution this meant that it only took 12 people to safely move it 50 meters across the venue floor into place – and match it up with other existing staging elements. By moving crew around the stage the client was able to manoeuvre it with millimeter perfection into place. The whole operation took ten minutes.

The Event-Deck staging system, along with an additional wooden raised LED frame, took less than four hours to build. A further two hours of bracing and leveling followed.

'By moving crew around the stage the client was able to manoeuvre it over 50 meters with millimeter perfection into place'.

Testimonial: Richard Penhaligon

"I have worked with Staging Services since 1996 and I have always found the desire for a perfect end product be a key driver for them. I have recently used SSL for a project in Sweden which required a 15m diameter stage. As is always the case, it wasn´t just a round stage, which in fact needed to be 14980 in diameter, it also had to be on wheels!

Our build schedule on site meant we needed to be building the stage at the same time as rigging for video and other departments to finish on time, in a very tight delivery window and then move into place when all other departments were ready.

I approached the team at SSL and it wasn´t a case of, you want what? It was a case of when do you want it and who is trucking it. The build element was easily dealt with by the team, a prompt costing was given, and we were off.

Drawings were submitted to the venue for structural loading that we had calculated based on our knowledge of the show.

The whole install went really well with all elements on site that we needed with clear drawings and install documents provided by SSL as well, to help our team.

All in all a great experience, yet again, working with the team at SSL".

Thanks Richard – we loved the challenge and your final delivery looked fantastic! (SSL)
