An Event With Imagination...
Make the Future London, featuring Shell Eco-marathon Europe, welcomed more than 30,000 guests to a festival of ideas, innovation and friendly competition from June 30-July 3.
It was a four-day festival of ideas and innovation offering curious minds and a rare glimpse into the future of our cities, showcasing bright energy ideas and providing a platform for innovation, collaboration and conversation about the global energy future.
For the first time in 30 years, Shell Eco-marathon arrived in London as part of Make The Future London. More than 200 teams from all over Europe competed on a specially-designed track around Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to see how far they could drive on the equivalent of one litre of fuel.
Working alongside Imagination’s Production Director, Matt Rose, and Production Manager, Matt Francis, Staging Services supplied a neat looking outdoor, covered, 10m x 7m main stage with a bespoke white canvas canopy. Also supplied was a 3m x 3m Front of house stage and number of rolling risers and plinths to raise and support video walls and AV equipment.
The stage modules were made up of Event-Deck, Hexigrip range, manufactured by Staging Services. The Hexigrip Event-Deck modules are perfect for outdoor use such as ramps, viewing platforms, and performance stages. Modular stairs and safety balustrade were used to gain access to the front and back of stage.
In addition to scientific demonstrations and displays the main stage hosted musical performances, from Pixie Lott with appearances from celebrities including Formula 1 World Champion, Kimi Räikkönen, and football legend, Pelé, alongside presenters Rachel Riley, Jamie Laing, and Alex Brooker.
Staging Services was also asked to build a viewing platform for press and guests in the Future Energy Pavilion, a temporary structure near to the temporary tarmac race circuit, featuring scientific exhibits and alternative-powered vehicles. The platform was a 1m high, 10m x 5m, platform made from Event-Deck stage modules with a slick finish consisting of a white solid fascia, grey carpet, aluminium edging and an LED glass balustrade system (manufactured by Staging Services Ltd). A set of five modular steps with glass balustrade handrails were also supplied.
